Desert Hills COVID-19 Protocols

modbug

The well-being of our guests is of the upmost importance to us. Rest assured, we are dedicated to incorporating all industry guidelines for a safe stay and a relaxing getaway.

The following represents an overview of Desert Hills COVID-19 Protocols for our guests. The information contained herein is sourced from the State of California’s COVID-19 Industry Guidance for Hotels, Lodging and Short Terms Rentals which was released on June 5, 2020. Per these guidelines and the subsequent approval of the City of Palm Springs, Desert Hills reopened as of Monday, June 15, 2020.

General Overview

The impact of COVID-19 on our health is not yet fully known. Reported illness ranges from very mild (some people have no symptoms) to severe illness that may result in death. Certain groups, including people aged 65 or older and those with serious underlying medical conditions, such as heart or lung disease or diabetes, are at higher risk of hospitalization and serious complications. Transmission is most likely when people are in close contact with an infected person, even if that person does not have any symptoms or has not yet developed symptoms.

Key prevention practices include:

Specific to Desert Hills

Self-Screening. If you’re feeling sick, or if you have a sick family member, please respect the health of others and stay home. We look forward to welcoming you when you’re feeling better. Click here for information on self-screening at home, including temperature and/or symptom checks using CDC guidelines.

Cancelation Policy. Through at least September 30, 2021, our cancelation policy has been updated. You may cancel your reservation by notifying us at hello@desert-hills.com or 760.325.2777 by at least 12noon on the day before your arrival date. After that time, we will process payment for the entire amount of your stay. In certain cases, solely at our discretion, we will refund the charged amount if you are not able to travel after payment has been processed.

Virtual Check-In. Since last May, Desert Hills has featured virtual check-in and credit card processing. Please make sure the credit card you use to make your reservation is the credit card you’d like us to charge a day prior to your arrival. We do not accept cash.

Parking. Desert Hills does not have valet parking, but we do offer our own off-street parking along the entrance to the property on San Jacinto Drive as well along the side of the property on West Arenas Road.

Hand Sanitizing. A touchless hand sanitizer station is located inside the front gate, we recommend using it each time as you enter and each before you leave the property.

Hand Washing. Handwashing with soap and hot water, including scrubbing with soap for 20 seconds, is one the most effective prevention measures. Dedicated foaming hand soap dispensers have been placed at each bathroom sink and each kitchen sink in the guest rooms. While we have a seemingly endless supply of foaming hand soap, we do not have an endless supply of dispensers, so please leave them for our staff to sanitize and refill for the next guest.

Face Coverings. We highly recommend you bring your own face coverings. If needed, we have disposable non-PPE face coverings, please let us know in advance and we will provide two per room per day. Face coverings can help protect people near the wearer, but do not replace the need for physical distancing and frequent handwashing. Proper face coverings cover the nose and mouth. As always, avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth.

Guest Rooms. Each guest room has its own energy efficient ductless air-conditioning system, so there are no ducts connecting any of the guestrooms. While our housekeeping checklist already includes the thorough sanitizing of all in-room touchpoints, we actively retrain all staff when any new guidelines are introduced. Also, our housekeepers, in addition to wearing face coverings, will put on new gloves between each room during service.

Housekeeping. For stays of 2 nights or less, we will not be offering housekeeping service in the rooms. If you need additional towels or linens, please let us know and we’ll arrange delivery to your door between 11am and 2pm. For stays of 3 nights or longer, if you’d like your room serviced, please let us know and we’ll provide service between 11am and 2pm. During the housekeeping service, we ask that guests not remain in your room (allow one hour).

Public Areas. As a small 14-room mid-century hotel, Desert Hills is a naturally ‘distanced’ property. Every guest room opens directly to 15,000 square feet of outdoor lawns, gardens and our spacious pool area for a maximum total of just 28 guests when fully occupied (750 square feet of outdoor space per guest). No lobby, no front desk, no hallways, and no elevators. Our staff will be regularly sanitizing our limited public touchpoints which include our front gate, luggage cart, ice machine, bicycles, pool floats and outdoor furniture.

Swimming Pool and Hot Tub. We follow the CDC guidelines for pool disinfecting, maintenance of our salt water system and for proper PH levels. Please maintain social distancing while using the pool. Management reserves the right to limit the numbers of guests who may be in the pool at one time. Due to the new guidelines, the current allowable capacity for the Hot Tub is 2 guests (from the same guest room) at a time, please limit your Tub time when other guests are waiting.

Lounge. While our pantry will be closed, we’ve moved our coffee service into each room with all the usual coffee and tea complements including Peet’s Dark Roast pods, and you are certainly welcome to bring along your own favorite pods.

Management and Staff. While on property, all of our management, housekeeping and maintenance staff will be wearing face coverings. Management and staff are screened for symptoms daily up arrival for their shift. Please contact us with any questions or concerns at hello@desert-hills.com or 760.325.2777.

Off Property. Currently, Palm Springs is requiring face coverings at all businesses. As you venture out, please be mindful of this requirement. Many of the Downtown restaurants, all within easy walking distance, in addition to offering take-out service, are now open for dining in as well, but have implemented the required social distancing measures.

Stay safe and we hope to see you soon!
